I have been bracing the cold of Copenhagen Fashion Week over the past few days on the hunt for the street stylish for Grazia UK's style hunter. 1st up is Marinne Chloe who wears a Zara jacket over an H&M coat and a vintage lace dress. Topped off with a quirky vintage flat-cap, double bags (one clutch, one Moscino x-body) and some heeled brogues, also from Zara. FHM - Lewes Bonfire Festival

In November FHM UK sent me to Lewes to document the Pagan Bonfire Festival. The festival not only celebrates the annual British celebration of the gunpowder plot of 1605 by Guy Fawkes, but also the burning of 17 Protestant Martyrs. The festival has a strong anti-catholism/Popery theme thoughout and consist of hundreds of locals turning out in some of the most fantastic costumes with large effigies of not only the Pope, but also any other sources of evil such as a giant Rebecca Brooks riding on the back of Rupert Murdoch and a tank carrying Gaddafi driven by the Devil and Death.

Apparently the event is getting so large in numbers now that the tiny town of Lewes can barely handle the amount of people and it is policed by the largest amount of police officers in the country on November 5th. It's pretty hardcore as the participants walk through the tiny streets throwing bangers in front of the crowd which literally felt like they were splitting my ear-drums. I also nearly got hit by a flying lit torch that exploded when a banger hit it (injuries to the crowd do happen each year!).

Its fun nonetheless and certainly is worth the experience once in your life before it just gets too busy to handle. The various firework displays at the end are just amazing as they blow up the effigies in style!

Selfridges Bright Young Things

Cozy Fashion Week

There's one thing that makes London style stand out against the likes of Paris and New York and that is the relaxed attitude to fashion we have. There was nowhere more evident of that than at London Fashion Week this season as all around the British fash pack turned out in their casual, but cool jumpers. One could say that its London, its cold, therefore you need a jumper, but to be honest its wasn't that cold as far as a September in London can be, so it was a conscious effort to follow this trend.

The jury is out though as to whether this is just London's "what ever, I'll do what I want" attitude (must be said in the voice of Eric Cartman btw) and this is what makes London cool. Or whether we're actually a bunch of lazy scruff-bags who don't really make any effort to be glamorous no matter what the occasion?

Either way, I think everybody here still looks pretty cool.

I can't remember the name of this model (if you know it, please tell me!), but she seemed really cool and had quite an interest in photography too, so we chatted about our love for the Yashica T5 (my camera of choice here). But it was also my love for something I can appreciate more now we are getting to the end of the Summer and that is the early morning Spring light. The point before it spills over the top of the buildings and there is a strange calmness in the air as people go for their coffees and wander to work.

It couldn't be further from the glamour of fashion week, but recently FHM sent me to Sonisphere Rock Festival at Knebworth to capture the intensity of 190,000 Slipknot, Metallica, Slayer, Limp Bizkit, Motörhead and many other rock fans.

Despite being nearly hit with condoms of piss as the two sides of the audience pelted each other, grim heavy rain and zero chance of sleep, it was an eventful weekend and I met many interesting hardcore fans of the various bands. What fascinated me the most to note about this subculture is the difference between the older crowds and the younger. It seems that most of the kids into rock and metal these days (and I'm talking 16 year olds here) aren't dedicating themselves in the same way as the original fans in the '80s and '90s. That's not a criticism, but just an evaluation of our chop-and-change culture and the daily urge for individualism - nowadays its more about saying "you've got the T-Shirt" rather than living the lifestyle and on a Monday, if you have the right t-shirt, you're a hard metal fan at Sonisphere and tomorrow you're into grime and heading to a rave in New Cross. The long-term rock lovers have the tats, piercings and (you imagine) the lifestyles of real hardcore fans - and they made for the most engaging pictures, don't you think?
